I'm not THAT charitable, but generally if I see someone in town who wants to buy something that I have a very large abundance of (assassin tomes, anyone?), I just give them a few for free.

I try to be charitable
but I find that when people are d-bags to me I feel less of a need to be nice to anybody
usually I offer advice for beginners thats bout all I can afford

I'm always down to help a guildie/friend (unless I'm in a GvG, HA, or important PvE). As for PUGs, I don't help or even care at all about strangers. The most I'll do is tell what/where something is if they ask, but that's about it. No free dyes, weapons, or napkins.

If I'm hanging out in a town/outpost and someone's asking questions (and is, you know, polite about it) I'll answer them as best I can. I don't give money to people asking for it, but sometimes I'll give away extra weapons I have taking up room in storage to low-level characters in the newbie areas; better than standing around trying to sell them and better than merching them (though I still run into the occasional idiot who can't read doing that).

With my friends/guildies, though, I try to be as helpful as my wallet allows. If I pick up something one of them might want or need, I'll give it to them. One of my friends I got into the game and I've made sure that all of his characters started out with some gold and a decent weapon. My brother is working on the drunkard title so I usually give him whatever alcohol I get. That sort of thing.
